Bill Abolt named lead of AECOM’s Energy business in the United States
17 February 2022Dallas, TX (February 16, 2022) — AECOM, the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, today announced Bill Abolt has been named lead of its U.S. Energy practice. Mr. Abolt will spearhead efforts to broaden AECOM’s next-generation energy initiatives and further develop a national network to manage grid modernization, vehicle electrification, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.

As lead of the U.S. Energy practice, which is part of AECOM’s Environment business, Mr. Abolt and his team work with clients in major population centers on initiatives that build a sustainable and resilient future. These include programs to make the electric grid more resilient in New York, increase energy efficiency in the Northeast, and electrify transportation for clients across California. In addition, his work encompasses projects such as the innovative sewer heat recovery system for the National Western Center in Denver, the largest of its kind in North America that will avoid over 2,600 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually.

Mr. Abolt brings more than 35 years of experience managing complex environmental, energy, and sustainability programs for utility, government, and private clients. “At AECOM, we are well positioned to take advantage of our vast, coast-to-coast resources to speed nationwide adoption of practices that are currently executed regionally,” said Mr. Abolt. “I am excited about the opportunity to scale our tested methods, accelerate decarbonization, and provide solutions that touch all 50 states.”
Prior to joining AECOM in 2014, he led the National Energy and Sustainability practice of Shaw Environmental and Infrastructure. Previously, he served as chief management officer, budget director, and environment commissioner for the City of Chicago, where he was responsible for developing the city’s strategy to become one of the greenest in the nation.
Mr. Abolt received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Augustana College in and master’s degree in public administration from Northern Illinois University.
