Morocco invests 6 billion dirhams to expand Rabat-Salé light rail project
4 January 2022
The city government of Rabat, Morocco recently announced a plan that it will invest Dh6 billion to expand the Rabat-Salé light rail project.
In 2017, the Rabat-Salé light rail underwent its first expansion, extending Line 2 by 7 kilometers to reach densely populated communities such as Youkoub Al Mansour, Hay Moulay Ismail and Hay Al Karia in Rabat.
This is the second expansion, with a planned investment of Dh6 billion, which will be constructed in three phases to extend a total of 27 kilometers.
The first section is to extend Line 1 by 14 kilometers, from the starting station Madinat Al irfane to the south of Temara Railway Station, passing the Hay Riad community in the middle. The second section is the intersection of Line 2 from the southern extension of Youkoub Al Mansour community with the extension of Line 1. The third segment is in the Salé area, extending Line 2 from Moulay Abdellah Hospital to Technopolis. An interchange station for Line 1 and 2 will be added near the Agdal High Speed Rail Station and Arribat Center.
The project is scheduled to start in early 2023 and is expected to reach 150,000 daily trips after completion.
