Ferrovial awarded construction of a section of highway in Peru for €100 million
7 October 2021
This deal strengthens the company’s footprint in Peru, designated as one of Ferrovial’s core markets in its business plan
The contract is to be executed in 24 months
It includes construction of a two-lane highway with three roundabouts, and the replacement of irrigation systems.
Ferrovial, through its Construction subsidiary, has been awarded a contract to build 29.7 kilometers of highway between the departments of Ancash and La Libertad, in Peru. The project, to be undertaken in consortium with Acciona, is worth USD 116 million (equivalent to about €100 million).
It consists of building a two-lane highway as an extension of the existing Pan-American Highway, three roundabouts, eight level crossings and ancillary roads, and replacing irrigation systems.
To be completed in 24 months, this new section of road is expected not only to enhance communications in the region and ensure reliable travel times but also to positively impact on road safety and on the environment by reducing vehicle emissions.
Further progress with the company’s Horizon 24 plan
This contract is a milestone in Ferrovial’s Horizon 24 plan, in which it designated Peru as one of its core geographies and a priority for developing, building and managing sustainable infrastructure.
It follows on from one obtained last year to build the control tower and six ancillary buildings at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, which was Ferrovial’s first contract in Peru.
Local commitment
Since 2011, Ferrovial has implemented nine projects in Peru under its “Social Infrastructure” program, which represent an investment of more than €1.3 million in the country. Over 29,000 people have benefited from these initiatives.
“Social Infrastructure” is a development cooperation program with the objective of improving and extending coverage and access to drinking water and basic sanitation among socially vulnerable groups.
