Colombia’s next renewable energy auction will be held on October 26, 2021, SIN grid operator XM Compania de Expertos en Mercados said in the tender dossier on Friday.
The operator of the national interconnected system (SIN) has been named this year the auction organiser, taking over from Colombia’s mining and energy planning unit UPME.
According to the newly-released timetable, interested parties can register to participate between August 17 and August 27.
The targeted demand will be announced on the day of the auction event, October 26, while the results will be released a day later.
The signing of power purchase agreements (PPAs) will be finalised by December 20, 2021, according to the current schedule, which still may change, XM said.
Project promoters will be bidding for 15-year PPAs and should start delivering the contracted electricity on January 1, 2023.
Other major rules and conditions for the auction have not changed:
-- power generation projects of 5 MW and above can participate,
-- to be eligible, projects must be registered with UPME and approved at least at stage two, a stage between preliminary design (stage 1) and full maturity complete with a budget plan (stage 3),
-- projects should have connection rights secured,
-- projects that had been assigned PPAs in the 2019 auction rounds are still eligible to participate this time, but their power output can only be offered for the block 3, which runs from 1700 to midnight.
