Greece working on 200-MW tender for renewables with storage
3 August 2021
Greece is working on the design of a pilot tender for 200 MW of renewable energy projects coupled with battery storage, Energypress reports.
Citing unnamed sources in the know, the news portal informs that the tender is mulled as part of a new support mechanism for renewable energy in the country until 2025. The framework is being prepared by the energy ministry and will be later reviewed by the European Commission.
No specific details have been given about the pilot auction process. According to the report, this is the first time that Greece is considering awarding tariffs to projects combining energy storage and renewable power generation.
Earlier this year, Greece stopped issuing production licences, environmental permits and connection agreements to renewable energy projects with an integrated battery storage component. This will continue by the end of the year until the required framework is in place.
