26 May 2021
In Côte d’Ivoire, Colas Afrique won a contract to redesign and reinforce the Route de l'Est, and to build four engineering structures around the country. The Group also secured a contract covering the roads and main networks in towns that are impacted by the construction projects. These two contracts are part of the National Infrastructure Development Plan, which aims to improve the country’s interurban road network.
The first contract is twofold, and includes:
- the reinforcement of a 133-km section of Route A1 (Route de l’Est) between the towns of Agnibilékrou and Bondoukou, and the upgrading of an existing 33-km section of dirt road into a paved road between the towns of Agnibilékrou and Takikro, on the border with Ghana; both sections will require the combined construction of 30 hydraulic engineering structures;
- the construction of four engineering structures, in the towns of Aniassué and Vonkoro in the east of the country, and in Sémien and Guiglo in the west.
The contract value for this project totals €157 million. The second contract covers roads and main networks in the towns that will be impacted by the construction projects, for a contract value of €23 million.
Work is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2023.
Colas has been working in Côte d’Ivoire since 1960, and has performed a number of important road construction and civil engineering projects, including the recent widening and upgrading of a 125-km section of the Route du Nord, considered to be the backbone of the country, between Bouaké and Kanawolo, handed over in 2020. While completing the project, which has had significant impact on the economic development of the region, Colas rolled out a number of initiatives to help make for better living conditions across local communities, fully in line with the Group’s CSR commitments.
