The Spanish state prison infrastructure company (SIEPSE, Sociedad de Infraestructuras y Equipamientos Penitenciarios y de la Seguridad del Estado, S.M.E., S.A) has awarded a joint-venture led by ACCIONA the contract to construct San Sebastián’s new prison (Norte III), in a project worth €41.35 million with a delivery period of 22 months.
The Norte III prison is located south-west of the municipality of San Sebastián. The site is on the “Loma de Ezkuzaitzeta”, close to the N-I highway on the eastern boundary of the Zubieta neighbourhood, close to the River Oria, around 8 km from the town centre.
The new complex will have the highest sustainability standards and will consist of a prison and a social integration centre. Its construction will be based on energy efficiency criteria and more than 50% of its energy will come from renewable sources. The complex will also have a system for reusing rainwater.
