Commencement of Offshore Foundation Installation for Offshore Wind Farm Projects at Akita Port and N

Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, “Marubeni”) is pleased to announce that, SEAJACKS ZARATAN (※), a large vessel for offshore wind power installation, has arrived at Akita Port and is scheduled to begin offshore foundation installation work (hereinafter, the “Installation Work”) on April 28th, 2021. The Installation Work is part of the construction of the bottom-fixed offshore wind farms at Akita Port and Noshiro Port and the onshore substation and transmission lines in Akita Prefecture (hereinafter, the “Construction”) led by Akita Offshore Wind Corporation (hereinafter, “AOW”). Marubeni is the largest shareholder in this offshore wind power project, which is the first large-scale offshore wind power project in Japan established on a commercial basis, and is the first in history to deploy a large offshore wind installation vessel in the sea area of Japan.
AOW started the Construction in February 2020 and expects to finish the Offshore Foundation Installation Work in 2021. From there, they will begin installation of 33 wind turbine units at Akita Port and Noshiro Port in April 2022, with the goal of commencing commercial operation within 2022.
Marubeni owns stakes in power projects across 19 countries (including Japan) for a total net capacity of about 12GW. Also, as part of the company’s activities for enhancing sustainability, Marubeni issued the Notification Regarding Business Policies Pertaining to Sustainability in Relation to Coal-Fired Power Generation Business and Renewable Energy Generation Business in September 2018, and set the Marubeni Long-Term Vision on Climate Change in March 2021 for the purpose of contributing to solving global climate change.
