RWE commissions 47.2 MW onshore wind farm in southern Italy
4 November 2026
RWE has commissioned its Serra Palino onshore wind farm in the Apulia region of southern Italy less than one year after construction began, the German utility announced on 2 November 2026. The project is located in the municipalities of Sant'Agata di Puglia and Candela, in the province of Foggia. With an installed capacity of 47.2 megawatts (MW), it comprises eight turbines of 5.9 MW each. According to RWE, the wind farm can generate enough renewable electricity to supply approximately 40,000 Italian households.
Construction completed in under a year
Sopna Sury, chief executive officer (CEO) of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, highlighted the timeline. "The commissioning of Serra Palino less than a year after the start of construction is an achievement we can be truly proud of, and one that reflects the outstanding work of everyone involved," she said. The group thus emphasizes the speed at which the site was delivered.
Sury also indicates that RWE currently has around 200 MW of new wind and solar capacity under construction in Italy. She presents this as a continuation of the group's commitment to expanding renewables in the country, in support of an energy system that is "increasingly reliable and competitive".
Around 670 MW installed in the country
With Serra Palino, RWE raises its installed capacity in Italy to approximately 670 MW, according to its own figures. The group operates 18 onshore wind farms, one photovoltaic plant and three agrivoltaic plants in the country. The company estimates that this portfolio can supply renewable electricity to more than 550,000 Italian households.
RWE describes an integrated approach to its Italian projects, covering development, construction and operation, as well as the marketing of wind farms and solar plants. In addition to the roughly 670 MW in operation, around 200 MW of wind and solar capacity is under construction.
