COMSA will enhance safety in the Adolfo Cañas and Piedra Santa tunnels on the GC-1 in Gran Canaria

The Canary Islands Government’s Department of Public Works, Housing and Mobility has awarded the contract for the refurbishment of the Adolfo Cañas and Piedra Santa tunnels, located on the GC-1, in Gran Canaria.

The aim of the project is to enhance the safety of both structures and improve protection for users in the event of potential emergencies, bringing the facilities into line with European safety standards.

Among the main works planned is the construction of an evacuation tunnel approximately 774 metres long in the Adolfo Cañas tunnel, which will feature two emergency pedestrian exits. In the Piedra Santa tunnel, new fire protection systems will also be installed.

The project also includes the refurbishment and modernisation of various energy, ventilation, lighting, communications and traffic management systems, including the installation of fire-resistant cabling and high-efficiency LED lighting solutions.

Through this project, COMSA Corporación is helping to improve road safety and modernise the facilities at two strategic infrastructure sites within the Gran Canaria road network.
