COMSA Industrial to modernise the boarding bridges at Barcelona-El Prat Airport

COMSA Industrial, the industrial engineering division of COMSA Corporación, has been shortlisted to be awarded the Aena contract for the maintenance, implementation of new technologies and operation of the fixed aircraft ground support facilities at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport.

The project will modernise key infrastructure for aircraft ground handling and advance the digitalisation of airport operations. Among the key measures is the implementation of a proprietary remote control system for the 83 boarding bridges, developed entirely by COMSA Industrial’s engineering teams.

This solution will enable the boarding bridges to be operated from centralised control rooms, optimising resource management and improving the efficiency of aircraft docking and undocking manoeuvres.

The project also includes the refurbishment of six boarding bridges in Terminal 2, the creation of new remote control rooms and the incorporation of advanced automatic docking assistance technologies. Furthermore, it includes the modernisation of visual guidance systems, communications, power supply and ground support equipment.

The remote control technology developed by COMSA Industrial is currently also being rolled out at Málaga Airport, where it will enable the remote management of its 26 jet bridges from a centralised control room.

With this contract award, COMSA Industrial is strengthening its presence in the airport sector and its capacity to develop and integrate advanced technological solutions. The company is also involved in other major projects within the Aena network, such as the Plan for the Roll-out of Charging Points at Airports (PIPRA) and the installation of photovoltaic systems for self-consumption at Málaga-Costa del Sol and Palma de Mallorca airports, amongst other projects.
