COMSA completes the construction of the new Calaf Freight Rail Terminal
30 October 2026COMSA, in a joint venture with CALAF Constructora, has completed the construction of the new Calaf (Barcelona) Freight Rail Terminal for Autoflotas Automóviles y Servicios, S.L.U., which was recently inaugurated.
The new infrastructure represents a milestone for the rail sector, as it is the first newly built private rail terminal in Catalonia in the last 30 years.
The project involved the construction of a platform covering nearly 30,000 m², equipped with four internal tracks, approximately 4,200 metres of track and 1,800 metres of catenary, as well as two connecting branches to the Manresa–Lleida railway line.
The terminal will strengthen rail transport for vehicles and promote more intermodal, efficient and sustainable logistics, boosting the use of rail for freight transport.
One of the main technical challenges of the project has been the integration of a newly built infrastructure with an existing railway line that is currently in operation. This has required the coordination of various disciplines, including civil engineering, track works, electrification and railway systems.
With this project, COMSA once again demonstrates its expertise in the railway sector, as well as its technical capability and specialised resources for developing highly complex infrastructure.
