NEW YORK, October 13, 2026 – RailWorks, North America's leading rail maintenance and infrastructure solutions provider, has been awarded a contract by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) to deliver the A&E Line Interlock Project, a critical rail infrastructure improvement program designed to enhance operational flexibility, reliability and safety across Metro's light rail network.
The project supports Metro's ongoing efforts to improve rail service and increase operational efficiency ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, where the Los Angeles region is expected to experience significantly increased transit demand.
Delivered under Metro's collaborative Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC) model, the project will include extensive preconstruction planning, constructability reviews, risk management, cost modeling, procurement coordination and schedule development activities before construction begins. This phased approach will help optimize construction sequencing, minimize impacts to rail operations and improve overall project delivery efficiency.
"RailWorks is proud to partner with Metro on this important investment in Los Angeles' transit infrastructure," said Mike McGee, President of RailWorks Track Services. "As the region prepares to welcome the world to the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, this project will help strengthen the reliability and operational flexibility of Metro's rail network while supporting efficient service for riders."
The project includes the construction of four new interlockings and siding improvements along Metro's A and E Lines at Anaheim Street, Avenue 34, Expo/Bundy and Degnan. The scope also encompasses upgrades to train control systems, traction power facilities, overhead catenary systems (OCS), communications infrastructure, drainage systems and associated rail infrastructure required to support safe and efficient train operations. RailWorks will leverage its extensive experience delivering complex transit and rail infrastructure projects to support Metro's long-term transportation goals and help improve mobility across the region.
