STRABAG consortium awarded a 219-million-euro infrastructure project in North Macedonia
  • 11.5 km of new motorway between Bukojčani and Kičevo, including a twin-tube tunnel, five bridges and two viaducts
  • Key section of European Corridor VIII to establish a continuous motorway connection between Skopje and Ohrid

The award of this project underlines our strong track record and capabilities in delivering major infrastructure projects across Southeast Europe. We are particularly pleased that our scope includes not only construction, but also the operation and maintenance of the completed section, reflecting the trust placed in our long-term infrastructure expertise.

Péter GlöcklerMember of the Management Board of STRABAG SE responsible for the South + East segment The project forms part of Pan-European Transport Corridor VIII. The aim of the development is to establish a faster and safer road link between Skopje, the tourist centre of Ohrid and the Albanian border. The new road will link the Gostivar–Bukojčani and Kičevo–Ohrid sections, which are already under construction. As the route runs through mountainous terrain, the project’s key technical elements include a twin-tube tunnel with a length of approximately 370 metres, two viaducts and five bridges, as well as the construction of associated junctions, retaining walls, drainage systems and road safety facilities.
The EBRD is providing a credit facility of 110 million euros for the project, secured by a state guarantee, whilst the European Union is contributing approximately 20 million euros in non-repayable grants to the investment through the Western Balkans Investment Framework.
