SEG Solar Launches HJT Production, Targets 10.6 GW in the United States

SEG Solar has produced its first heterojunction module at its second U.S. plant in Tomball, Texas, lifting its North American capacity to 6 GW and targeting more than 10.6 GW by 2027.

SEG Solar, a U.S. solar module manufacturer, announced on September 15, 2026, that the first heterojunction (HJT) module had rolled off the production line at its Tomball #1 facility, located in the Greater Houston area of Texas. The milestone marks the start of commercial-scale HJT module production at the company's second U.S. factory. Growth in the solar sector is also reflected in new financing and projects worldwide, such as the $117 million community solar financing closed by Generate Capital and MUFG, or the program targeting 5,000 MW of solar capacity in Bhutan. This launch brings SEG Solar's aggregate solar module production capacity in North America to 6 gigawatts (GW).

A technology aimed at improving energy yield

According to SEG Solar, HJT technology delivers higher bifaciality, a lower temperature coefficient and reduced degradation compared with conventional photovoltaic technologies. These characteristics would contribute to higher lifetime energy production, the company said. SEG Solar stated it will continue optimizing its products and improving efficiency, with the goal of helping customers maximize project value while supporting broader adoption of the technology.

Tomball #1 was designed for end-to-end digital management of manufacturing operations, from order release and material flow through to production execution. AI-enabled inspection tools and advanced production scheduling systems are integrated throughout the facility, according to SEG Solar, to support product quality, traceability and operational efficiency. Combined with automation equipment, the manufacturing platform is intended to deliver reliable solar modules for the U.S. market.

Continued expansion of U.S. capacity

The launch of production at Tomball #1 represents the latest phase of SEG Solar's U.S. manufacturing expansion. The company has already begun construction of an additional HJT module manufacturing facility with 4.6 GW of annual capacity, expected to begin operations in 2027. Once completed, SEG Solar's total U.S. module manufacturing capacity would exceed 10.6 GW, according to the company.

SEG Solar is also advancing a domestic solar campus, with U.S. cell production targeted for 2028. The project would complete the vertical integration of the company's value chain, from ingots and wafers through to cells and finished modules. The strategy comes amid broader growth in the global solar market, as illustrated by projects such as the 99 MW solar plant under construction in the Philippines by ib vogt.

A strategy focused on industrial sovereignty

Jim Wood, chief executive officer of SEG Solar, said: "Facing the new policy challenges, SEG has doubled down on American manufacturing. With Tomball #1 online and our domestic supply chain fully traceable, we are accelerating toward our goal of becoming America's largest crystalline silicon module manufacturer." The statement comes as several solar module manufacturers strengthen their industrial presence in the United States amid trade tensions and the reshaping of global supply chains.
