Egis brought in to manage Kuwait’s strategic port project
3 February 2026
France’s Egis has won a project management and construction supervision contract for the completion of the first phase of Kuwait’s Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, which started more than a decade ago.
Working for China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and Kuwait’s Ministry of Public Works, Egis will provide oversight for the remainder of phase 1, including onshore and offshore construction, marine structures, port basin and channel works, utilities and buildings.
CCCC won a contract worth approximately $4bn to complete the port in December 2025, Arab News reports.
Physical foundations including quay structures and land reclamation were finished in 2014.
Located on the eastern side of Boubyan Island in the mouth of the Shatt al-Arab waterway, the development aims to create a trade and logistics gateway for Kuwait and the Upper Gulf region.
Egis’ role includes project management, construction supervision, contract administration, schedule and cost control, health and safety leadership, plus structured support through testing, commissioning and handover.
The company said it will prioritise governance, transparency and risk management, and embed early technical studies into design review processes.
The port is part of Kuwait’s 2035 plan and will form part of Silk City, a part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
A quote from CCCC reads: “We have integrated Egis into this project to leverage their deep expertise in independent design audit and construction oversight.
“Their role is vital in ensuring that every element of the remaining works is aligned with the standards, systems, and operational requirements expected of a major international port.”
