ACCIONA awarded road link project in southern São Paulo
21 January 2026
The City Council of São Paulo (Brazil) has awarded ACCIONA the contract to build the road section linking Avenida Jornalista Roberto Marinho with Rodovia dos Imigrantes, one of the country’s main logistics arteries and a key link between the city and the São Paulo coastline.
The contract, valued at R$2.099 billion (€334 million), includes the construction of three new lanes in each carriageway along a 4.7 kilometer stretch, incorporating three viaducts and two tunnels, as well as a cycle lane. The project also includes drainage works to divert an existing stormwater channel and the development of a landscaped park with recreational areas.
The extension of Avenida Roberto Marinho, designed to improve connectivity with Rodovia dos Imigrantes, is a key mobility project for southern São Paulo, aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving access to one of Brazil’s main highways. Beyond traffic improvements, the project will support urban development by expanding public spaces, incorporating cycling infrastructure and creating a green corridor for the local community.
ACCIONA brings extensive experience in this type of project and is currently delivering one of the most significant infrastructure projects in Brazil and across Latin America: Line 6 of the São Paulo Metro, which will connect Brasilândia with the city center.
Beyond its technical complexity, Line 6 has become one of ACCIONA’s flagship projects, reflecting the company’s regenerative purpose and positive-impact model. The project has already created more than 11,000 jobs and, once operational, will have the capacity to serve more than 630,000 passengers per day.
KEY MARKET
ACCIONA has been operating in Brazil for nearly 30 years, delivering infrastructure projects across several states.
In addition to Line 6 of the São Paulo Metro, ACCIONA is active in the water and sanitation sector in the state of Paraná, in partnership with Sanepar, and in the state of Espírito Santo, together with CESAN. More recently, the company was awarded a sanitation concession in the state of Pernambuco, in consortium with BRK Ambiental, supporting progress towards universal access to these essential services.
ACCIONA has also delivered a number of flagship infrastructure projects in the country, including Terminal 2 at the Port of Açu in Rio de Janeiro and the transformation of the historic Júlio Prestes railway station in São Paulo into a world-class concert hall.
