16 September 2025
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Sunday with Terje Pilskog, CEO of Norway’s Scatec, and Cao Renxian, chairman and founder of China’s Sungrow, to discuss opportunities for trilateral cooperation in renewable energy, the presidency said.
Sisi underlined the importance of expanding ties with the two companies to attract foreign direct investment, create jobs and consolidate Egypt’s role as a regional energy hub in the Eastern Mediterranean. He also pledged support for localising industry and removing barriers to their operations.
Scatec highlighted its $3.6 billion investment portfolio in Egypt under the state’s NWFE Platform, which includes major solar, wind and hydrogen projects. They include the Obelisk solar power plant in Nagaa Hammadi, a 1-gigawatt solar facility with 200 megawatt-hours of storage for Egyptalum, the country’s first hydrogen and green ammonia project in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), the Shadwan wind farm in Ras Shukeir, and a green ammonia project in Damietta.
Sungrow presented plans to establish a factory in Egypt with an annual capacity of 10 gigawatts to manufacture power station components and energy storage batteries. Cao said the company was ready to localise production, leveraging Egypt’s infrastructure and renewable resources.
Both companies welcomed Egypt’s investment facilitation measures and alignment of projects with its long-term vision to become a leading producer and exporter of green energy.
