Foster + Partners designs luxury mall for Istanbul
13 August 2025
UK-headquartered architect Foster + Partners has unveiled the design for a retail plaza on the north bank of Istanbul’s Golden Horn estuary.
Located close to many of Istanbul’s historic landmarks, the Golden Horn Plaza will contain luxury retail space, with interconnected pavilions that can be configured for brands internally and externally.
Walkways link the streets between the pavilions, with trees offering shade throughout.
It will also host cultural events throughout the year. Landscaping is inspired by Istanbul’s public gardens.
Nigel Dancey, Foster + Partners’ head of studio, said: “Golden Horn Plaza is an integral part of the transformative masterplan for Istanbul’s waterfront.
“The scale and proportions of the development reflect the city’s maritime industrial heritage – ensuring it is in keeping with the layered historic surroundings. Architecture and landscaping work in harmony with one another to create a year-round cultural and lifestyle destination.”
Golden Horn Plaza is part of the larger 1.6km Tersane masterplan, a mixed-use development that will turn an unused waterfront into a public promenade with residential units, hospitality, cultural buildings and landscaping.
