26 May 2025
Doosan Enerbility announced on May 25th that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Korea Western Power(KOWEPO) on pursuing the development and demonstration of Korean-standard mid-sized(90MW) 100% hydrogen-fueled turbines and cooperating on targeting the global market.
The signing ceremony was held at Doosan Enerbility’s Changwon headquarters on May 22nd with key figures from both parties in attendance, including Jungbok Lee, President of KOWEPO, and Yeonin Jung, Vice Chairman and COO of Doosan Enerbility.
Upon signing this MOU, Doosan Enerbility will be responsible for development of the mid-sized 100% hydrogen-fueled turbine technology, while KOWEPO will be taking on the application and demonstration of the turbines at a new build power plant.
This is in compliance with the South Korean government’s policy aimed at increasing the share of clean hydrogen in the energy mix and establishing a solid foundation for hydrogen development. Cooperation will be additionally pursued with the small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) and mid-sized businesses that are currently engaged as partners for this initiative in other efforts as well, such as penetrating the global market with the Korean-standard hydrogen turbines.
“With the signing of this MOU, we seek to lay a solid foundation for developing hydrogen power in the domestic market through these efforts of developing Korean-standard mid-sized 100% hydrogen-fueled turbines,” said Yeonin Jung, Vice Chairman and COO of Doosan Enerbility.“We plan to actively target the global market as well.”
Doosan Enerbility is continuously engaged in the development of hydrogen turbines, which is regarded as a leading carbon-free energy technology. The company aims to complete development of both the 90MW and large-scale 400MW 100% hydrogen-fueled turbines by 2028.
