- The contract, which will run until January 31, 2030, represents a continuation of the work the company has been carrying out since 2017, when it was first awarded the energy management contract.
ACCIONA Energía has been awarded a €5.6 million, five-year contract for the energy management of Madrid City Council's public buildings.
The contract, which will run until January 31, 2030, represents a continuation of the work the company has been carrying out since 2017, when it was first awarded the energy management contract.
ACCIONA Energía will be responsible for studying, analyzing, measuring, monitoring, and evaluating the energy performance of 400 municipal buildings and facilities. These include the Cibeles Palace, the Treasury and Public Administration headquarters, the Conde Duque Cultural Center, and numerous sports centers, schools, cultural centers, libraries and senior centers across the city. The company will identify improvement opportunities and continuously monitor the energy-saving measures implemented.
The company will provide an energy monitoring consultancy service based on data analysis from 3,850 measuring points installed in municipal facilities. The measuring points correspond to sensors and systems that track electricity, thermal and other energy consumption, allowing detailed control of each building’s energy performance and the detection of possible inefficiencies.
In addition, ACCIONA Energía will supply and install energy monitoring systems in more than 200 additional buildings beyond those already equipped with this technology. Around 220 municipal buildings are already equipped with energy monitoring systems. With this expansion, the total number of monitored properties will be over 400.
As part of the contract, ACCIONA Energía will provide the City Council with an energy management platform that will enable real-time monitoring and analysis of energy consumption in municipal buildings to detect and correct inefficiencies. This system will facilitate not only the immediate response to unusual consumption alarms, but also the ability to improve operational decision-making and the detection of inefficient consumption patterns.
This contract is part of the municipality’s goals outlined in the MADRID 360 Environmental Sustainability Strategy, particularly in the Roadmap to Climate Neutrality by 2050, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 65% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels and achieve full climate neutrality by 2050.
With this new agreement, ACCIONA Energía reaffirms its position as a leader in public infrastructure energy management, reinforcing its commitment to driving the energy transition and urban sustainability. The company has also been managing Gijón's energy services since 2022 through the largest energy services contract ever awarded by a Spanish city.
