Germany’s Siemens has landed multiple rail contracts in Thailand, including delivery of 53 new trains and improvements to intercity connectivity.

In Bangkok, Siemens’ will work alongside Turkey’s Bozankaya and Thailand’s ST Engineering on a turnkey contract for the Orange Line that involves delivery of 32 three-car trains and will handle the design, installation and integration of the 36km line’s mechanical and electrical package, including the signalling and passenger information systems.

Siemens Mobility also signed a long-term maintenance contract for the Orange Line and another to deliver 21 trains to the Blue Line, which opened in 2004. It will also upgrade the line’s signalling and supervisory control and data acquisition systems.

Siemens has also signed a two-part contract to improve signalling and telecoms systems in northern Thailand.

The contract’s first segment involves work on a 132km stretch from Ngao to Chiang Rai, which has 11 stations. The second part will encompass an 87km route from Chiang Rai and Chiang Khong, with seven stations.
