Meta to Invest More than $10 Billion in Louisiana Data Center Campus
6 December 2024
Richland Parish, Louisiana, will be home to Meta’s newest data center. This custom-designed four million-square-foot campus will be Meta’s largest data center to date. It will play a vital role in accelerating Meta’s AI progress.
Once completed, the Richland Parish Data Center will represent an investment of more than $10 billion in Louisiana and will support over 500 operational jobs. Meta is also investing over $200 million in local infrastructure improvements.
Turner Construction Company, DPR Construction, and M. A. Mortenson will build the data center campus. We anticipate that more than 5,000 construction workers will be onsite at peak construction. There will be a concerted effort to source labor and materials locally and provide substantial contributions directly to the community.
Ben Kaplan, Managing Director, Turner Construction Company said, “Meta, in partnership with Turner, DPR, and Mortenson, will host information fairs at the beginning of the year for interested workers and trade contractors. Please follow each of our company Facebook pages for updates.”
Richland Parish is an outstanding location for Meta to call home for a number of reasons: It has great access to infrastructure, a reliable grid, a business-friendly climate, and wonderful community partners that have helped move this project forward.
Building with sustainability in mind is important. Together with Meta’s energy partner, Entergy, Meta is adding enough clean and renewable energy to the grid to cover 100% of the electricity use of the Richland Parish Data Center. Meta has worked closely with Entergy from the beginning to plan for their energy needs and will bring at least 1,500 megawatts of new renewable energy to the grid. Meta and Entergy are looking to invest in multiple clean energy sources, including nuclear energy.
Meta also prioritizes water stewardship and will work to make sure their data centers operate efficiently. Meta is proud that they anticipate this data center will use less water than the site does today. Meta has the global goal to be water positive in 2030, which means Meta will restore more water than it consumes.
