Romania secures €70 million in grants for solar panel manufacturing and battery storage projects
8 November 2024
The Romanian Ministry of Energy has announced the allocation of approximately €70 million in grant funding under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) to support the construction of a solar panel manufacturing plant and five large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The largest portion of the grant, €32.9 million, will be directed towards the solar panel manufacturing project proposed by Helomit, a Romanian company. The funds will help build a solar panel factory in Barlad, Vaslui County, with an expected annual capacity of 1.5 GW.
The remaining funding will be distributed among five battery energy storage projects across Romania, collectively adding nearly 800 MWh of storage capacity. Aukera Project Company Delta will receive €9.9 million for a 300 MWh battery installation in Ialomita County, while Baboia Solar Plant will be granted €6.1 million for a 121.9 MWh storage facility in Giurgiu County.
Other recipients include HQ Plus, which will receive €4.3 million for its 79.2 MWh project in Mures County, and HQ Curat, which is set to receive €4.9 million for a 91.4 MWh battery project, also in Mures County. Energy Capital Group has been awarded €10.7 million for a 199.1 MWh energy storage project in Caras-Severin County.
According to the Ministry, these projects will help Romania achieve 20% of the capacity needed to meet its national energy storage requirements.
