Arctech secures 2.3GW solar tracker deal in Saudi Arabia
28 October 2024
Solar equipment manufacturer Arctech has signed a deal with the China Energy Engineering Group to supply 2.3GW of SkyLine II solar trackers to the PIF4-Haden project, operated by Acwa Power in Saudi Arabia.
The agreement propels Arctech’s MEA [Middle East and Africa] portfolio beyond 15GW, reinforcing its presence in the region.
The PIF4-Haden project is set amid vast desert landscapes and is prone to high winds.
Arctech’s SkyLine II trackers are equipped with a synchronous multi-point drive mechanism, allowing them to withstand such conditions by stowing horizontally at a wind speed threshold of 22 metres per second.
This enhances the system’s durability, boosts power generation and optimises investment returns over the power station’s lifespan.
SkyLine II’s modular design offers scalability and improves land use efficiency, which can lead to cost savings in solar plant installation.
The project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and is expected to begin commercial operations by early 2027.
It will produce 156.189 billion kilowatt-hours over 25 years, potentially removing 147Mt of carbon dioxide emissions.
In April 2024, Arctech secured a contract to provide 1.5GW of trackers for a solar project in Saudi Arabia.
The ASB project, for which the trackers will be supplied, was described as the largest solar plant under construction in the Middle East.
Arctech agreed to provide its SkyLine II solar tracking solution for the project – its first solar tracking and racking project in Saudi Arabia.
