Kenya awards $1.3bn power concession to Adani Group and Africa50
16 September 2024Kenya Electricity Transmission has entered into a public-private partnership (PPP) with Indian conglomerate Adani Group and Africa50, an infrastructure investment platform of the African Development Bank, Bloomberg has reported.
The partnership, valued at $1.3bn, will enhance the country’s power transmission infrastructure.
David Ndii, chief economic adviser to Kenya’s President William Ruto, confirmed the awarding of the concession to build power transmission lines.
The strategic move is expected to significantly improve the power distribution network in Kenya.
In related news, Adani Power and Adani Green Energy have secured a contract to provide 6.6GW of combined renewable and thermal power to the state of Maharashtra in India up to 2047, Reuters has reported.
The development marks a significant milestone for the Adani subsidiaries, expanding their footprint in the region.
