Bouygues Construction is leading the consortium chosen to deliver a €235m refurbishment of Argenteuil Hospital in the northwest suburbs of Paris.
Bouygues has a €129m stake in the project, which was devised by Brunet Saunier & Associés with the assistance of BaSo Architectures.
The consortium also includes Inéo and Axima as the services engineers, and Premys, a subsidiary of Colas, as the demolition specialist.
Work will be carried out in two phases. The first involves building a 30,000 sq m extension to the east of the existing Madeleine Brès structure. This will be completed in April 2027.
The second phase will add 28,000 sq m to the west of the building. This will be completed in July 2030.
When remodeled and extended, Argenteuil hospital will contain an emergency department able to accommodate 100,000 admissions a year, with 500 beds and an upgraded maternity unit.
Intensive and critical care departments will be grouped together on the same platform, making it easier to receive patients.
Outside, dedicated lanes will be made for emergency services, and car parking spaces will be increased to 1,400.
Bouygues says it will reuse materials, saving an estimated 3,200 tonnes of concrete. There will also be bio-sourced materials, and 97% of materials created during demolition will be recycled.
The hospital is part of a larger urban redevelopment project, which includes 7,000 sq m of green spaces.
Albin Dargery, a vice president of Bouygues Bâtiment France, said: “Building for life means constructing state-of-the-art hospital infrastructures, modern and adapted to the needs of patients and medical staff.
“Our ambition is to make the Nouvel Hôpital d’Argenteuil a benchmark facility combining innovation, performance and respect for the environment.”
