The First BRT Project in Côte d'Ivoire Starts Construction
13 July 2024On July 10th local time, the groundbreaking ceremony of Côte d'Ivoire’s first BRT project, constructed by China Gezhouba Group Municipal Engineering Companyunder CEEC, was held in Binjerville district of Abidjan.
It is the first domestic bus rapid transit (BRT) projectin Côte d'Ivoire, with atotal investment of 242 billion CFA francs. The construction includes 8.29 kilometers of rapid transit lines, 8 bus stations and related ancillary facilities. It is planned to equip over 100 electric articulated buses, and the daily passenger flow is expected to exceed 500,000.
The project will help accomplish the connection between Yopougonand Bingervilleof Abidjancity, which can reduce the travel time to 45 minutes and also be connected seamlessly with other transportation means like port, airport, etc. It will serve as the main artery of urban transportation and greatly improve regional traffic conditions and urban functions. Meanwhile, it can effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and inject new impetus into local economic development and resident employment.
