International consortium begins work on 22km EU-funded Serbian rail scheme
11 July 2024
Construction has begun on a 22km-long bypass of the southern Serbian city of Nis. The project is being carried out by a consortium made up of Serbia’s Extra Auto Transport and China Road and Bridge, a subsidiary of China Communications.
The Є154m deal, awarded by Serbian Railways, will deliver a single-track, electrified line, with a maximum speed of 120km/h.
The project is part of a larger, EU-funded project, involving the modernisation and reconstruction of the 104km Nis-to-Dimitrovgrad line, which will connect with Bulgaria’s network.
The bypass is due to be completed in 2027.
