India’s L&T wins ‘significant’ Jakarta MRT extension job
7 March 2024L&T Construction has won a rail systems contract worth at least $120.7m to fit out the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Phase 2A extension project through its Japanese partner, Sojitz Corporation.
Japan is lending the Indonesian government more than $500m to finance the broader Phase 2 MRT expansion in Jakarta.
Phase 2A extends the MRT some 12.5km between Bundaran HI to Kota, with seven underground stations.
L&T withheld the precise contract value, classing the win as “significant”, which means it ranges in value from one thousand crore rupees ($120.7m) to 2.5 thousand crore rupees ($301.7m).
The work involves tracks, electrification, signalling and telecoms, and platform screen doors, among other components.
L&T said it was its first EPC rail systems contract in the ASEAN region, and that it hopes to win more.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency signed a loan agreement with Indonesia last April, pledging just over $587m for Phase 2.
