Serbia: 42 new oil wells enter operation

Oil production in Serbia is carried out at 870 oil and 69 gas wells in operation, on which various exploitation methods are applied.
In addition to these, in 2023, 42 new wells were additionally put into operation – 41 development and one exploratory well, according to the Decision on Determining the Energy Balance of the Republic of Serbia for 2024, which was published in the Official Gazette.
NIS a.d. Novi Sad is the only company engaged in the exploration and production of oil and gas, and it owns a processing complex in Pančevo with a total processing capacity of 4.8 million tons of crude oil per year, in addition, it also owns a plant for the preparation and transportation of oil and gas in Elemir.
Production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), as a derivative of natural gas, is carried out in Elemir at the Oil and Gas Preparation and Transportation Plant NIS a.d. Novi Sad and in Odžaci, in the plants of “Standard Gasa” d.o.o. and the plants of Hipol a.d. The production of propane-butane mixture and autogas, based on the mixing of components, is carried out by the company Petrol LPG d.o.o. Belgrade at the plant in Smederevo, company VML d.o.o. Belgrade is in operation in Jakovo.
Transportation of oil derivatives in Serbia is carried out by rail, ship and road transport. From the refineries to the terminal facilities, it is mainly carried out by rail and ship transport, and in the delivery to the final consumers, by road.
As stated, the only company that carries out the activity of transporting oil by pipeline in Serbia is “Transnafta” AD Pančevo. “Transnafta” JSC Pancevo carries out the activity of transporting oil through an oil pipeline that stretches from the Danube River from Sotin on the border with the Republic of Croatia to the Pancevo Refinery, and its total length is 154.5 kilometres. The Bačko Novo Selo – Novi Sad Refinery section is 63.3 kilometres long, and the Novi Sad Refinery – Pančevo Refinery section is 91 kilometres long.
The estimated amount of imported crude oil for 2023 that is transported through the DN-2 pipeline section (Novi Sad – Pančevo) and enters the refinery is 2,850 million tons, and domestic crude oil is 0,700 million tons. The possible planned amount for transportation by pipeline in 2024 is 2.800 million tons of imported crude oil and 0.700 million tons of domestic crude oil.
