26 January 2024
The Royal Commission for Riyadh City, in cooperation with Diriyah Company, has announced the establishment of the Royal Diriyah Opera House in Diriyah.
The Royal Diriyah Opera House embodies the ambitious national aspirations for the Kingdom’s capital Riyadh to be a leading global and innovative city in cultural and architectural fields in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
Situated at the heart of Diriyah, the capital city’s 300-year-old heritage quarters and birthplace of the Kingdom, the Royal Diriyah Opera House will stand as a testament to Saudi Arabia’s commitment to celebrating its rich culture and heritage. Covering a sprawling 45,000 square metres near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of At Turaif, this architectural masterpiece will be the focal point of the second phase of the Diriyah masterplan
The Royal Diriyah Opera House will be a global platform and will attract talent and leading companies from around the world in the fields of performing arts, music and opera, providing visitors and residents with exceptional cultural and entertainment experiences.
The plans were unveiled during Diriyah Company’s celebrated Bashayer 2023 event earlier this month, where it also revealed its strategic partnership with the globally acclaimed architectural firm Snøhetta, known for its imaginative and sustainable design ethos. Local expertise from Riyadh-based Syn Architects will also play a vital role, infusing the project with a deep understanding of the region’s architectural heritage.
The Royal Diriyah Opera House is part of RCRC’s endeavor to enrich the cultural scene in the capital, by providing world-class live entertainment options to the Kingdom’s residents and visitors, in line with the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030.
