Delivery Ceremony Held for the UN Office Building Project in Senegal

On November 23, 2023, a grand delivery ceremony was held for the UN office building project in Senegal, which was built by WIETC in PPP mode. Senegalese President Macky Sall, Romanian President Klaus Johannis and his wife, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, ambassadors of various countries to Senegal and some local government officials attended the ceremony. Madani Markey Tarr, Chairman of SPV company, He Shenjian, General Manager of WIETC West Africa Company, Qi Pan, Deputy General Manager of the Company, and representatives of the company in Senegal attended the ceremony.

At the southern security check point of the project, President Sall and the guests jointly cut ribbon and unveiled the project, and then visited the functional zones of the UN office building.

After the visit, the guests went to the main conference hall to attend the delivery ceremony. Madani Markey Tarr, Chairman of SPV company, Amina J Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General, Klaus Johannis, Romanian President and Macky Sall, Senegalese President delivered speeches to express warm congratulations on the completion of the UN office building in Senegal.

Chairman Tarr said, “The unique building is the outcome of three-year hard work by all parties involved, indicating success of an innovative financing model. The success cannot be achieved without the efforts of UN team, the WILMOTTE Design Institute that provided technical support during the construction of the project, and the well-known construction company WIETC that built the international airports including the Maya Maya International Airport in the Republic of Congo, Lom-Tokoin Airport in Togo, and Malabo Airport in Equatorial Guinea, etc.”

President Sall delivered speech

President Sall, in his address, said, “This is a modern building with facilities that meet the best UN standards for work and safety requirements. This building is our contribution to the UN strategy to create better synergies between different UN entities to enhance the efficiency of cooperation. The delivery of the project once again realizes the national public-private partnership strategy, and we sincerely thank Envol Immobilier, WIETC and other companies for their outstanding contributions in the construction process of the project.”

The guests also watched a documentary on the construction process of the UN office building project, and enjoyed wonderful music performance presented by the famous Senegalese singer Baaba Maal.

The Senegal UN office building project is a major PPP project built by WIETC and local partners, aiming to provide modern centralized office space for thousands of staff of 34 UN agencies in Senegal. The project covers 13 hectares, with total built area of 65,342 m2. It was started on April 1, 2019, and was completed on December 31, 2022. Upon delivery, the project will greatly improve the working conditions of the UN staff stationed in West Africa.

The delivery ceremony marks that WIETC, as the project investor and EPC general contractor, has delivered a satisfactory answer through extraordinary efforts, showing its continuous responsibility and efforts to deepen the investment and cooperation with Africa. The project has also become a new biz card for the company, effectively enhancing its influence in Senegal and the entire West African market.
