26 January 2024
On September 2, the DRC Sapphire Ceramics Company, a joint venture between WIETC and Wangkang Holding Group, held the inauguration ceremony for its ceramic factory. DRC President Felix Tshisekedi attended the ceremony and cut the ribbon for the factory. Officials from the Federation of the Businesses of the Congo attended the ceremony.
The ceramic factory, covering 30 hectares, is located in Maluku Special Zone in the north of Kinshasa city. The built area of the workshop and supporting facilities stands at about 200,000 ㎡, and the ceramic production capacity is 70,000 ㎡ / day. The products are mainly middle and high-grade ceramic tiles, including full-cast glaze, inner wall tiles, crystal tiles and antique-style tiles. After nearly one year of construction and equipment installation, and following ignition, kiln warming, debugging and other preparatory process, the factory successfully produced tiles on July 12, thus kicking off the production and operation stage.
The factory is the first local factory of the kind in DRC, ending the history that country had no national producer of ceramic tiles. With high social benefits, the factory can provide more than 1,000 direct jobs and create 3,000 indirect job opportunities, thus receiving great praise from the DRC President and the Minister of Industry, etc.
