Amazon and Hyundai plan autonomous ‘site of the future’
18 January 2024
Amazon has joined forces with South Korea’s Hyundai to work on the development of autonomous construction sites.
The team will use Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a connectivity platform for Hyundai XiteSolution’s smart construction equipment.
The idea is to leverage cloud computing, the internet of things, AI and machine learning to create a site that can build without direct human labour. The duo say that such sites will be more reliable and productive than conventional ones.
Dong-wook Lee, Hyundai XiteSolution’s president, said: “With the largest cloud provider as our partner, we can accelerate innovation towards unmanned autonomous construction sites of the future. This collaboration marks a milestone in Hyundai’s ongoing transformation beyond manufacturing into a comprehensive solutions provider.”
Hyundai plans to launch products using AWS features in 2025.
The company announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that it would use AWS to refine AI data, allowing for insights in productivity, reliability and automation.
Hyundai plans to expand the use of AWS to other business units, including ship-building and offshore sites.
