5 January 2024Skanska has won a hospital expansion in Oregon, a Marine Operations Centre in Rhode Island and a war memorial restoration in Tennessee. The schemes have a total value of $428m.
In Portland, Skanska’s $200m contract is with the Oregon Health & Science University, and involves fitting out a 50,000 sq m, 14-storey building.
The tower will have three levels of parking and six levels of clinical areas, including a bone marrow transplant and surgical oncology departments. It will be connected to the hospital by three pedestrian sky bridges.
The scope of work includes the mechanical, electrical and plumbing package, as well as fire protection systems.
Work on the extension began in 2022 and is expected to open by 2026.
The company has also won a $147m deal from the US Navy to add a control centre to Naval Station Newport on Rhode Island.
Working on behalf of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Skanska will build a pier that can accommodate four large vessels, a 2,000 sq m administration building and a loading area.
The facility will serve as the home to NOAA’s Marine Operations Centre in the Atlantic region.
Work on the project has already begun and is due to be completed in July 2027.
The third deal was a $81m renovation of the War Memorial Building in Nashville, which commemorates soldiers from the state who died in the Great War. The company will work on exterior and interior renovation for the State of Tennessee.
Skanska’s portion of the construction is due to begin next month and will be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
