MoU signed for 260 MW of Solar Projects in Mozambique
5 January 2024
Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with pan-African infrastructure investment platform Africa50 to collaborate on the development of solar energy projects and transmission lines in Mozambique.
The initiatives encompass the Montepuez solar farm, a 100 MW project in Cabo Delgado province and the Angoche solar plant with a capacity of 60 MW in Nampula province, featuring an integrated battery energy storage system. Additionally, there is the 100 MW floating solar photovoltaic endeavor in Manica province, planned to be constructed on the Chicamba hydropower plant reservoir.
Beyond power generation, Africa50 and EDM have entered into an MoU to collaborate on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects for the development of 400 km of high-voltage transmission lines.
These projects are anticipated to be undertaken within the framework of the UAE's Africa Green Investment initiative, a US$4.5 billion initiative in which Africa50 serves as a strategic partner. The MoU was formalized during the COP28 climate conference in the UAE.
