Maca, Acciona, Aecom win Melbourne’s M80 Ring Road Completion
20 December 2023
Thiess Group company Maca Civil has been picked to design and build the M80 Ring Road Completion in Melbourne, Australia in partnership with Acciona and designer Aecom.
The project will involve a massive upgrade of the M80 Ring Road including 14km of new lanes, separation of local roads, and traffic-management technology.
The new road will link Plenty Road and the new North East Link tunnel entrance at Watsonia in Melbourne’s north east.
The resulting interchange with North East Link and the Greensborough Bypass is projected to take 19,000 cars and trucks off Greensborough Road a day.
Extensive earthworks include retaining walls, bridges, rail interfaces, and landscaping – including planting 4,000 trees.
Work is scheduled to end in 2028.
“This is a significant project opportunity for the Maca Civil business since we joined the Thiess Group last year,” said Maca chief executive David Greig, “and we are proud to be joining the State Government, Acciona and Aecom in delivering this vital infrastructure project for Victoria, that will improve safety and reduce travel times for our community.”
