HOCHTIEF subsidiary CIMIC to construct AUD 3.6 billion tunneling project for public transport in Melbourne

HOCHTIEF Group Company CIMIC has been selected by the Victorian Government in Australia to deliver the first major tunnelling package on the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East, a public transport project in Melbourne.
The package valued by the Victorian Government at AUD 3.6 billion (EUR 2.2 billion) of which CIMIC’s subsidiary CPB Contractors has a 40% share, includes construction of a 16-kilometer section of the project’s 26km twin tunnels and two new underground station boxes first step in the city’s public transport network transformation. CPB Contractors was awarded as part of the Suburban Connect consortium, alongside ACCIONA and Ghella.
HOCHTIEF CEO Juan Santamaría said: “CPB Contractors is an industry leader in the delivery of complex construction and brings decades of experience to this first major package of SRL East, providing critical transport connections for the city. We are pleased to be selected by the Victorian Government to construct this valuable piece of infrastructure, improving the lives of people across east and south east Melbourne.”
Major tunnelling works are expected to commence in 2026.
