Four big companies in the UK construction sector have joined forces to promote UK professional services for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Law firm Pinsent Masons, Mace, Costain, and Montreal-headquartered AtkinsRéalis (formerly SNV-Lavalin) met in October with a delegation from Ukraine’s State Agency for Restoration and Development of Infrastructure, hosted by the UK’s Department for Business and Trade and the Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA).

Over the four-day visit, 16-20 October, the UK hosts showed Ukrainian officials major projects like Crossrail, King’s Cross Station, and Thames Tideway, and held round table discussions with UK experts on finance and modern methods of construction, the IPA said.

Graham Robinson, global business consultant at Pinsent Masons, told GCR he expected a follow-up meeting with the Ukrainian agency.

The four have produced a brochure entitled “Reimagining Ukraine”, touting UK skills in major infrastructure programme management, international procurement, cost consultancy, masterplanning, legal and financial services, and industrialised construction.

At stake is a $1 trillion reconstruction effort likely to last decades, it said.

The brochure, which the coalition calls a “playbook”, itemises how the four have experience delivering major infrastructure schemes from the London Olympics to Saudi giga projects to the 2019 Panamerican and Parapan American Games in Peru.

“Our design, masterplanning, and engineering skills are among the best in the world, if not the best,” Robinson said.

“But also our understanding of international procurement and contracting – we do understand what works and what doesn’t. Also, how you might build innovation into international procurement and contracting.”

As GCR has reported, big companies from the US, Korea, and elsewhere have signed non-binding agreements to help Ukraine rebuild.
