Dubai firm invests in $600m Ethiopian wind farm

Dubai renewables developer AMEA Power has signed a deal with the Ethiopian finance ministry to invest in an 18,000-hectare wind farm in the Horn of Africa region. Set to cost $600m to build, the Aysha wind power scheme is projected to produce around 1.22 Terawatt hours electricity a year.

Building it will create some 2,000 jobs, the finance ministry said.

It added that the deal showed its “determination to attract private investments in the energy sector and increase the share of renewable energy in Ethiopia’s power mix”.

Only around 54% of Ethiopia’s population had access to electricity in 2021, according to the World Bank.
