Petronas, JOGMEC and METI partners for CCS projects in Malaysia
11 October 2023
Petronas has signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) on cross-border CO2 transportation from business to business for carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects in Malaysia and Japan.
As per the MoC, the partners will exchange key information on CCS projects and country-specific laws and regulations relating to CCS. Additionally, the parties will explore CCS and related cooperation with key partners including Japanese companies supported by JOGMEC.
CCS is one of the solutions to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. However, suitable storage sites are not available in all regions so, cross-border CO2 transportation is required to enable regional collaborations to achieve the goal.
