UGL acquisition increases its Telecommunications capability
21 September 2023
UGL, a member of CIMIC Group, has confirmed the acquisition of the telecommunications services of Skybridge. Skybridge is an Australian installation and maintenance contracting company which specialises in fibre, wireless and satellite telecommunications markets. The acquisition includes stock, equipment and intellectual property, and includes the transfer of eight customer contracts, Skybridge telecommunications personnel and subcontractor arrangements. The integration of the additional capability into UGL’s existing Telecommunications business will allow UGL to continue its strong growth in the telecommunications sector and will strengthen its offering in regional and remote Australia. Specifically, this acquisition will bolster UGL’s national capabilities in high-volume customer installation and assurance works. UGL Managing Director said: “UGL was born in regional Australia nearly 125-years ago and we’re proud of our contribution towards ensuring our regions are connected. The addition of this new capability and expertise will allow UGL to further strengthen our focus on regional development across Australia and will build on our strong reputation in the telecommunications market.” UGL GM Telecommunications Con Kourtis said: “UGL’s telecommunications offering is significantly strengthened by the addition of the capability and contracts from Skybridge. I’d like to welcome our new team members to UGL and I look forward to continuing our growth in the coming years”. In July 2023, UGL alongside other Service Delivery Partners were awarded contracts by NBN Co to fulfill upgrades from Fibre to the Node (FTTN) to Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) that deliver the final 500,000 fibre upgrades, which form part of the 1.5 million premises within the Australian Government’s $2.4 billion equity investment in the nbn® network.
