Hyundai Engineering & Construction has won a $145m contract to build a power transmission line in Saudi Arabia, South Korean media report.

It will erect some 450 transmission towers to carry more than 200km of cable between the Neom development area in the northwest of the kingdom and the Red Sea port of Yanbu.

Neom covers some 26,500 square kilometres, and contains a number of nascent developments, including a floating port, a ski resort and “The Line”, a 170km-long “linear city”.

The power line will be a 525kV DC line, delivered as a turnkey project with a completion date of July 2027.

The Pulse news site notes that Hyundai has completed 33 similar projects in Saudi Arabia since 1976.

A company official said: “Since first entering the Saudi construction market in 1975, we have successfully executed 16 large-scale projects, including the Amiral Project and the Neom Running Tunnel, earning the trust of the Saudi government and clients over the years.”
