Work begins on rail link between Tokyo Station and Haneda airport

Construction has begun on a rail service between Tokyo Station and Haneda International Airport with connections to the city’s Utsunomiya, Takasaki and Joban Lines.
A press release from the East Japan Railway Company says the development will cost $2bn, and when in use, the 14km line will cut travel time from 30 to 18 minutes.
The Haneda Airport Access Line will incorporate existing bridges, viaducts and other structures from the disused Oshio Line.
Track for the project will be laid from the Tokyo Freight Terminal to Haneda Airport New Station, and a station will be built between Haneda Airport’s first and second terminals.
Japanese news company Kyodo reports that the line will be operational by 2032, two years later than originally proposed.
