MoU signed for 600 MW Hydrogen project in Sweden
13 May 2023
ABB has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lhyfe and Skyborn to develop the 600 MW SoutH2Port hydrogen project in Sweden. The new facility will be managed by Lhyfe and Skyborn and will be located in the municipality of Söderhamn.
The facility will be connected to Skyborn's 1,020 MW Storgrundet offshore wind farm, which will be built off the coast of Soderhamn in the Baltic Sea. The wind farm will feature 51 turbines with a tip height of 290 m and is estimated to generate up to 3.5 TWh of electricity per year.
Under the collaborative arrangement between the companies, ABB will contribute its critical capabilities to optimize the integration of the hydrogen and electricity production throughout the entire ecosystem, including automation, electrical and digital technologies. ABB will also drive the development of power-to-X (Power-to-Hydrogen) conversion technologies to create carbon-neutral energy carriers, such as hydrogen, from renewably sourced electricity, which can be stored for later use.
The Hydrogen project will be built in stages, beginning in 2025. Upon completion, it is anticipated to produce about 240 tons of hydrogen per day, equivalent of around 1.8 million barrels of oil per annum.
