US$1.2 billion investment announced for Railroad PPP projects in Peru

A private investment promotion agency (Proinversión) and the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru have announced the resumption of contract award processes for the Longitudinal de la Sierra Road concession - Section 4 and Huancayo-Huancavelica Railroad Project.
A total of about US$1,200 million will be invested in 2 projects. The projects will stimulate the economy and improve the connectivity of branches located in the area of influence: Junin, Huancavelica, Ica, Ayacucho and Apurimac.
The Huancayo-Huancavelica Railroad Project will be awarded in 4Q of this year with an estimated investment of US$263 million for the benefit of the people of Junin and Huancavelica. The 128.7 km Huancayo-Huancavelica Railroad consists of 7 stations, 20 stops, 15 bridges and 38 tunnels. The scope of work includes upgrading the railroad infrastructure with new rolling stock, a signaling and control system, a new repair and maintenance workshop and a drainage system. The project will be transferred to a concession for 30 years.
The Longitudinal de la Sierra Road concession - Section 4 will be awarded in 1Q of 2024 with an estimated investment of US$914 million. The project comprises rehabilitation and upgrading works (117 km), regular initial maintenance (280 km) and operation and continuous maintenance of (970 km) in order to conserve the highway at established levels of service. The implementation of the project will improve the standard of living of approximately 1.6 million residents.
