Webuild joint venture lands $1bn Florida interchange contract
20 April 2023
A joint venture between Webuild subsidiary Lane Construction and US company Superior Construction has been awarded a $1bn contract to rebuild the Westshore Interchange in Tampa, Florida.
The scope of work includes the creation of general use and tolled express lanes, as well as direct ramps to Tampa International Airport.
The job involves improving safety and increasing capacity to ease traffic flow for the 400,000 vehicles that are expected to use the interchange by 2045.
The Italian company and its partner have already been awarded a $10m contract by the Florida Department of Transportation to plan the project. A separate contract for construction will be issued once that is completed in November.
Construction is due to begin in the spring of 2024.
In July 2022, Lane won a $223m design-and-build contract to improve the I-275/I-4 highway interchange.
