Siemens Gamesa to supply turbines for 1.4 GW Offshore wind farm in UK
22 March 2023
RWE has chosen Siemens Gamesa's RecyclableBlade technology for its 1.4 GW Sofia offshore wind power project in the UK. A total of 44 SG 14-222 DD offshore wind turbines will be installed with RecyclableBlades, which measure 108 m in length.
The Offshore wind farm located 195 km off the UK’s North East coast on Dogger Bank in the North Sea. The wind farm site covers an area of almost 593 sq km and features 44 SG 14-222 DD offshore turbines. The annual power generation is estimated to be enough for nearly 1.2 million homes.
The manufacturing of the blades will take place at Siemens Gamesa's Hull factory. The RecyclableBlade technology provides a more sustainable and eco-friendly solution for the wind energy industry by enabling the full reclamation of the blade's components (including resin, fiberglass, and wood) at the end of its life cycle.
