Swiss contractor Implenia has won a contract to build a tunnel between Skøyen to Vækerø stations on a forthcoming metro line in Oslo.

The €114m contract will connect the stations on the 8.2km Fornebu line. This is the third of four major tunnel contracts on this part of the system.

When complete, the line will connect the centre of the Fornebu peninsula to the affluent Majorstuen district of central Oslo.

As part of the contract, Implenia will build an underground extension to Skøyen station (pictured), one of six on the future line.

This was designed by Gottlieb Paludan Architects of Demnark in association with local firm L2 Arkitekter.

It will cover four levels and, according to Gottlieb Paludan, draws inspiration from the existing station’s traditional Norwegian materials of wood and slate.

Implenia will start its work later this year, with work scheduled for completion in 2025.

Erwin Scherer, Implenia global head of tunnelling, said in a press statement: “This is a huge win for Implenia and our Norwegian team, building on our experience in successfully managing large and complex infrastructure projects in Norway.”

According to Scherer, Implenia won the job as a result of its environmental protection and sustainability plan, its price and its comprehensive building information model.
